Driving Test Centres in Greater Manchester

Booking driving lessons in Manchester? Where you test matters almost as much as how you train. We regularly use DVSA test centres across Greater Manchester and train you on the actual routes you will face — roundabouts, bus lanes, dual carriageways and residential manoeuvres.

Below is our instructor-written guide to the centres we commonly book — what each area throws at you, who it suits, and which lesson package gets you test-ready. For the full learning path see how many lessons you need and our intensive courses.

Choosing a test centre

Instructors usually recommend the test centre whose routes you have practised most with. We consider journey time, the kinds of junctions and roads on the test routes, and learner confidence when suggesting the best centre. Rule of thumb: pass where you practise — we only book when mock tests show you are ready.

Test centres we commonly use

Cheetham Hill (Aldergrove Road)

Test-route staples on Cheetham Hill Road: urban roundabouts, bus lanes and tram-aware junctions. Best for confident city drivers training in Manchester, Crumpsall and Broughton.

West Didsbury

One of the busiest centres — village streets plus A-roads. Ideal if you train in Didsbury, Withington, Chorlton or Burnage.

Sale

A56 crossroads, Sale Water Park routes and residential grids. Great for Sale, Stretford and Old Trafford learners — lessons can mirror test conditions from day one.

Bury

Market-town traffic, A58 stretches and Metrolink crossings. Suits Bury learners who want clear roundabout and junction practice.

Chadderton

A627(M) and Broadway corridors — dual-carriageway approaches plus residential junctions. Our instructors have repeated first-time passes here; see Chadderton lessons.

Bolton

Town-centre traffic around the A666 plus quieter routes in Burnden and Harwood. Good all-rounder for north-west learners, including Atherton.

Stockport

Large roundabout systems and A6 corridors — the classic lane-discipline test. Train here via Stockport, Cheadle or Hazel Grove lessons.

Bredbury & Rochdale

Bredbury: A560 and interchange lane control. Rochdale: A-road corridors plus town-centre one-ways — instructor Hassan Iqbal guided a zero-minor pass here. See Rochdale lessons.

Note: test-centre characteristics can change and pass rates vary — check the latest official pass rates and test-centre information on GOV.UK before booking.

How we pick the right centre for you

We choose a test centre based on the routes you have practised, your confidence on the likely roads and the practicalities of travel time. Your instructor will only recommend a booking when they believe you are ready to take the test — preparation first, convenience second. Unsure about gearbox? Read manual vs automatic first.
